Day 22

Cherokee NC to Waynesville, NC
38 miles
Before you comment about our lower than average mileage, let me tell you about the ride. Blueridge Pkwy kicked my butt again. For appetizer, we climbed 10 miles straight. For main course, we had cold rain all day. To top it off, we had head wind going up and severe cross wind going downhill for desert.
Our original plan was to ride the pkwy all the way to Asheville but screw that. I made an excutive decision (Captian Woo) to head into town of Waynesville. We got off the exit and b-lined it straight for Huddle House. We knew than that we had made the right decision.
From there, out luck turned for the better. We found a bike shop in town to fix Josh's rear wheel. Ron Hight of Waynesville Bicycle Company (Waynesvillebikes.com) came through and stayed late to replace and true the spoke. To top it off, he didn't even charge for the spoke or the labor. Thank you
From there, we were on a mission to find a place to sleep for the night. As usual, Josh took off the front to find a spot. As I was decending a steep hill in town I happened to glance to my right and noticed someone waving at me. But kept moving forward and thought maybe they could give us a piece to land to camp on. We called Josh back and went back up to the house. Kristina and Adam Newsom basically gave us the house. We got showers, beer and great company. It's so weird how a series of events all worked out to make this evening possible.
We will make into Asheville tommorrow and get a day off and we are off to Tennesse and Kentucky. I wil post the start and end towns for next two weeks although its always subject to change.
Good night
