John Day, OR to Kimberly, OR
57 miles

It was pretty nice to have an easy day for a change, relatively
speaking. We lost elevation the entire day following the John Day River.

The ride took us through the Sheep Rock Unit John Day Fossil Beds
Monument. As we rode closer, the mountains closed in until it formed a
tight canyon carved out by John Day River. I couldn't keep the bike
straight as I kept looking up in awe at the canyon formations around me.
Concentrate Jin-san.

My hunger has been off the charts during the past week. My typical day
includes a morning snack to hold me over until a big breakfast. Then
lunch comes followed by a mid afternoon meal. Later a mid size snack
is in order to hold me over for a large dinner. Then I have just a
little desert before bed. Then I wake up so hungry, it feel like somebody
hit me in the gut. I repeat the process.

We made it into the small town of Kimberly. The whole town includes a
road junction which only makes a right turn, a bridge over the river,
and a convenient store. That's small.

The campsite for the night is on the banks of John Day River. Pretty
nice but the mosquitoes are abundant so we took shelter in our tents.
They seem to be getting bigger.

P.S. Do not step on a snake in the water. They seem to get pretty
upset. It chased me out of the river.

Good night.

1 mile at a time...

I hope your night camping along the John Day River ended with only a few mosquito bites! I don't think that I would go back in the river anymore if I were you; I'm too scared of snakes to mess with them!
