Vanderhoof, BC to Burns Lake, BC
76 miles

Bear alert! We saw our first black bear today. Actually, it was
pretty uneventful. Railroad track ran parallel with the highway all day.
About 50 miles out of town, I turned to my left and there he was sitting
on the tracks. He was staring at me and I was staring at him. We
were about 50 yards away from each other so I didn't feel threatened. As
soon as Glenn pulled up, the bear got up and walked off. We figured he
was trying to warm up sitting the rocks.
Very cute though.... from a distance.

The day started off great. We went inside a local camp store to buy
some fuel for the stove and a reporter saw us and asked if could do an
interview in Burns Lake. Of course we said yes.
As we walked out of the store, a local resident pulled over and wanted
to help out by giving us leftover KFC from last night. He gave us a
bag full of chicken and he even gave us a small cooler. Carrying a
cooler makes it look like I am carrying 200 lbs of gear. He works at a
local soup kitchen so he gets free food all the time. Maybe we're starting
to look homeless. Anyway, we munched the whole bagful today.

The ride was relatively easy today. We got a bit of sprinkle but
nothing to soak us. The roads were mostly flat and winds were down. Even
with a late start, we managed 75 miles.

We made it to a KOA campground near town. KOA has been very generous
to us. They have comped us twice now on oue trip. Camping here is so
nice. They have clean showers, soft grass, general store and place to
do dishes. Thank you. This helps us out tremendously.

Next to our campsite, we met Anders and Nina. They are from Denmark
and they are RV vacationing the BC area for 5 weeks. They're getting a
good taste of what its like to be American.
They are having a great time with their kids. They are in awe of the
vast open space of Canada. Denmark being pretty small, open country
like this doesn't exist.

They had extra steaks and offered it to us. Being hungry all the time,
we had to accept. Thank you guys very much.

Forecast for the rest of this week calls for rain. I am crossing my
fingers that they're wrong.

Good night.

Jin, Glenn, Josh
1 mile at a time...
