Junction of Hwy 37 and Hwy 1, YT to Continental Divide, YT
72 miles

We are finally on the Alaskan Hwy. I had this image in my mind that it
would be grand with spectacular scenery and tourists attractions.
Well, it's not that at all, at least his portion. It's actually very
sparse with service and the scenery is lots and lots of trees.
Not that I don't think it's beautiful but when rolling at 6mph, I feel
like I am riding the same section over and over again. Be patient.....

Alaskan Hwy was built in the 40's by our US military in 8 months. I
can't imagine what the mosquitoes must've been like. Very impressive
project considering the terrain.

This will be our third time crossing the continental divide. All
rivers to the south and west flow to the Pacific while all rivers north and
east flow to the Arctic Ocean. Only idiots would route the trip to
cross this divide three times. Are we lost?

Being so far north, the sun never gets into a high noon position. The
sun seems to stay at about 10am position all day long. It get light
around 4am and gets truly dark around 1am. Most of the time, we don't
see the sun because of the high mountains or trees. I also can't
remember the last time we saw stars.

Continental Divide Lodge has donated a campsite to us and we also got a
well needed shower. Thank you.

Good night.

1 mile at a time...
